Part 7: Student Notebook Evolution

This is part of a series that chronicles the ongoing collaboration between Tufts CEEO and Little Singer Community School in the Navajo Nation. Click here to view the whole series.

Here’s our second vlog, this time taking a deep dive into the changing ways we get our students to document their work. Taking inspiration from the Dine’ engineering process, you’ll see three different iterations of student engineering notebooks we used over the course of the summer enrichment program, and get a peek at the fourth iteration we plan to start using in the fall.

Big takeaways: Keep documentation simple and accessible. If you want your students to document their work, make time for it in class. Providing clear and systemic scaffolding upon which students can present their ideas makes their work easier.
