About AS&E GSC

General Information

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) was established to provide a forum for graduate students across all disciplines in Arts, Sciences, Engineering, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (AS&E and SMFA, respectively). Each year the GSC works on a diverse array of student life and learning issues including healthcare, housing, and travel and research funding. The GSC also hosts a Graduate Student Research Symposium which features presentations delivered by graduate students from a variety of departments in AS&E. Additionally, the GSC strives to have a positive impact on the broader community outside of Tufts. Part of that commitment includes an annual 5K Run/Walk which has raised over $40,000 for a variety of charitable causes.

The GSC is here to serve all graduate students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS), the School of Engineering (SoE), and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA). Take a few minutes to explore our website! We have tried to make it as comprehensive as possible but we are always adding new features and links, so be sure to check back often. If you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of your graduate life at Tufts, or if you would like to become involved in the GSC, please do not hesitate to contact us. See our 2024-2025 Officers page for individual contact information.
Executive Board and Committees

The Executive Board consists of four officers and six Internal Committee chairs. The election of the E-board members is hosted in the May general body meeting annually. The GSC also sends graduate student representatives to university-wide committees. For more details on the GSC E-board and committees details, see the according pages.
Graduate Student Organizations (GSOs)

The AS&E GSC recognizes and funds many Graduate Student Organizations (GSOs). We encourage students to form and join GSOs that interest them. For more details on GSO recognition and funding, see the Graduate Student Organization page.
GSAS and SoE Union

Tufts University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and the SEIU Local 509 have worked cooperatively to reach an agreement on a five-year contract involving only doctoral graduate workers in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The School of Engineering doctoral graduate workers are currently working towards a contact as part of the same unit. The GSC is not affiliated with the GSAS and SoE graduate worker union.
