Award Descriptions:

Outstanding Graduate Student Contribution to Undergraduate Education
This award recognizes outstanding teaching and mentorship on the part of a graduate student who is
serving as a teaching assistant, lab coordinator, graduate student lecturer, etc. Evidence of this may take the form of outstanding work in the classroom demonstrated by a graduate student instructor/TA/coordinator/lecturer/section instructor’s knowledge of their field and by their willingness to tailor that knowledge to the needs of his or her students and to address the different learning styles of students. In addition, graduate students nominated for this award will have demonstrated a deep and ongoing commitment to undergraduate education through a willingness to go the “extra mile,” which might mean extended office hours, providing extra help when asked, staying after class or lab to discuss questions, etc. The graduate student nominated for this award should have clearly demonstrated that they values their role as a contributor to the undergraduate experience.

Outstanding Graduate Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion
This award recognizes outstanding commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the Tufts graduate community. Evidence of this may take the form of excellent advising at the coursework, masters, or doctoral level; strong contributions to the professional development of graduate students; strong contributions to the intellectual and personal growth of graduate students; and an investment in serving in the role of mentor and teacher.

Outstanding Graduate Student Organization
This award recognizes a graduate student organization that has made outstanding contributions in a variety of areas, including social and/or diversity events, academic and/or professional development events, and community (Tufts-based or beyond) outreach and service.

Outstanding Faculty Contribution to Graduate Studies 
This award recognizes outstanding teaching, mentorship and/or advising. Evidence of this may take the form of excellent advising at the coursework, masters, or doctoral level; strong contributions to the professional development of graduate students; strong contributions to the intellectual and personal growth of graduate students; and an investment in serving in the role of mentor and teacher. Faculty’s strong contribution to graduate studies may also be evidenced by knowledge of the field and by each faculty member’s willingness to tailor that knowledge to the needs of graduate students. Please describe your personal experiences by providing at least one clear example of mentorship.

Graduate Student Council Service Award
This award recognizes a faculty or staff member, and a GSC e-board member that has made outstanding contributions in a variety of areas to support graduate student life, including academic and/or professional programming, diversity and inclusion, community outreach and service, and social events.
