Week 1: Ice Breakers

Goals for this week:

During week one, our goal is to acclimatize students to the class and contextualize the learning material that is to come in the following weeks. We start broadly by covering the history of biotechnology in agriculture/food via an in class trivia session, followed by an activity to introduce students to the different efforts groups have made to create cultured and plant based meats. Overall, we believe that establishing a communicative teaching environment and helping students understand the significance of the class material helps to improve engagement and maximize learning outcomes.

Assignments:

  • Prepare for a Cell Ag class debate next week!
  • Search for an article to present during Journal Club (Week 7)
