Seattle has built upon a long and rich history of civic engagement to develop neighborhood and sustainability planning, watershed and ecosystem restoration strategies for Puget Sound, community gardening and green building, and climate action planning. Its race and social justice initiatives have helped to enhance diversity and inclusion. Challenges persist on fair and effective forms of representation, as well as housing costs and homelessness, among others.
