Christian Enrique Tondo Otazu
Director – Financial Inclusion Department, Central Bank of Paraguay
Mr. Christian Tondo is the head of the Financial Inclusion Department at the Central Bank of Paraguay. He is in charge of the financial inclusion projects related to “bancarization,” financial education, and financial consumer protection. He is also member of the Technical Team of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy, the main coordination effort from private and public organizations to reduce poverty and increase economic growth through more access, use, and quality of financial instruments.
Mr. Tondo was previously head of the Financial Stability Unit at the Superintendence of Banks. Before joining the Central Bank, he worked for a renowned international consulting firm in Montevideo and Munich and was a consultant for the Ministry of Finance. His research interests include e-money, interoperability, and its relation to saving alternatives for the poor, as well as the effect of financial inclusion on the economic development of his country. He holds a PhD in economics from the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg.
