Sakiusa has been a career central banker for nearly 10 years beginning his journey with the Reserve Bank of Fiji in August 2011. He started as an Examiner with the Prudential Supervision team and played a key role in licensing Fiji’s only local commercial bank – HFC Bank. He then served with the Statistics team for a year and with the Policy & Research team for a little over 3 years where his milestone included initiating the reform of credit unions in Fiji – a project that will result in credit unions being brought under the supervisory ambit of the Reserve Bank. Since March 2018, Sakiusa has been part of the Financial System Development team taking a lead role in implementing a number of key projects to further Fiji’s financial sector development and financial inclusion agenda. One of the highlights was the commencement of the Personal Property Securities Act 2017 in May 2019 which has now brought Fiji’s collateral registry online. Recently, Sakiusa has been involved with developing Fiji’s Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) pursuing opportunities that will create more access to affordable/sustainable finance that can generate growth for the country especially amidst the pandemic and the on-going threat of climate change.
Sakiusa is also an active member of the community currently holding the role as Treasurer of the local Methodist Church that they attend and was the former President of the Reserve Bank of Fiji Sports & Social Club in 2015. Sakiusa holds a bachelor’s degree from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, majoring in Accounting and Commercial Law. He is also a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) under CPA Australia since 2016. He is 31, happily married with a 3-year-old son and 4-month baby girl. Saki, as he likes to be called, enjoys spending time with his family, loves to sing and watch the Boston Celtics win games!
