About the job

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion and curiosity for research in nanotechnology and cancer therapy. Under the close supervision of the Principal Investigator, the candidate will work on projects involving fabrication of nanoparticles for cancer diagnosis and therapy in the integrated Biofunctional Imaging and Therapeutics (iBIT Lab). This position is part of an interdisciplinary team with expertise in tumor biology, biophysics, imaging, nanotechnology and cancer therapeutics. The candidate should be able to conduct experiments to supplement work when necessary and analyze various points of data to establish findings. The candidate should also have effective writing skills in order to write research proposals and create reports.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up, develop and prepare routine and specialized theranostic nanoparticles for in-vitro and in-vivo experiments
  • Perform relevant in-vitro and in-vivo work to evaluate efficacy of therapeutic nanoparticles
  • Develop research study design and techniques in collaboration with the Principal investigator
  • Assist with establishing lab protocols, write-ups, and updates of general lab activities
  • Analyzes and interprets data, drawing conclusions that are subsequently depicted graphically using tables, graphs, and charts
  • Writes the research summaries and material for presentations and publications
  • Maintaining any relevant or appropriate databases
  • Specific experimental assistance as needed

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, chemistry, biology, cell and molecular biology, pharmaceutics or related field with greater than 2 years of related laboratory experience and scientific publications.
  • Research experience in an academic lab conducting innovative nanosynthesis approaches, particularly, liposomes, gold nanoparticles, iron nanoparticles or perfluorocarbon nanodroplets.
  • Experience with cell culture techniques, molecular biology techniques (western blots, ELISA etc) and fluorescence imaging is a must
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; highly self-motivated; ability to work in a team or individually; excellent attention to detail. Flexibility to work on various projects.
  • Must be able to prioritize urgent tasks while ensuring established deadlines are met.
  • Experience with handling lab animals is a plus.

Current Openings: We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow!

NIH funded postdoctoral research position is available in the Dr. Mallidi’s iBIT Lab on a joint project between labs at Tufts University and Wellman Center for Photomedicine, Harvard Medical School. The research will focus on the development of ultrasound and photoacoustic systems using single element / array transducers for both pre-clinical and clinical applications in cancer research. This position is available to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

Required qualifications:

  1. Applicants should hold, or be about to hold a PhD or a MD/PhD with Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Physics, or Computer Engineering background.
  2. Experience in instrumentation, in particular, data acquisition, motor control and signal processing are the key requirements for this position.
  3. Applicants who have experience in programming in C or Matlab are preferred.
  4. Knowledge of optics, ultrasound, photoacoustics and design of medical devices is required
  5. Experience with cell culture, animal handling and tumor models is a plus.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Applicants will be expected to work independently and as part of an integrative team.
