Dates & Deadlines

I. SET-UP

M 9/19: In class, identify possible general topics. Marc visits to introduce the Digital Storytelling Project.

F 9/23: By 5pm, send Freeden a brief email with your top 3 topic choices and description of relevant experiences.

M 9/26: First meeting with group members in class. Brainstorm some ideas. Schedule a time to meet before next Monday’s class. Carefully read the entire website, review expectations and assign roles, and sign the group contract before the next class.

M 10/3: Submit Group Contract in class. One signed form per group.

II. RESEARCH

Early October: Meet with Josh or Dianne to prepare your Research Assignment. At least 1 group members must attend; 2 group members is recommended.

Early October: Determine 1 or 2 possible topics for the project. A description of the topic(s) is due in the email submission for the Research Assignment.

(M 10/10: NO CLASS, Indigenous Peoples’ Day)

(F 10/14 — Paper #1 due)

Mid October: contact Marc to let him know whether you group can attend the November 7 iMac workshop or to schedule another time to meet with him in early November before you start editing the story.

TH 10/20: Research Assignment due electronically. In the email submission of this document, describe your topic (or two possible projects) in a few sentences.

TH 10/20: Recommended deadline by when you should meet with Lara if you’re planning to collect original audio and video recordings of other people.

III. DESIGN

TH 10/27: Video Treatment Plan due electronically by 5 pm.

M 10/31: Class at the Tufts Art Gallery with Liz Canter. Practice with identifying the 8 ingredients of an effective digital story. Activity worksheet. Examples of digital stories for the activity: “Queerbaiting” and “Half the History”.

M 11/7, 12-1:15: iMovie workshop with Marc in the Mark Lab (1st floor, Tisch library) OR meet another time before the Storyboard is due. At least 1 group members must attend; 2 group members is recommended.

M 11/7: In-class workday, to replace scheduled readings on syllabus.

F 11/11: Storyboard (saved as a pdf), Bibliography, and brief description of your use of the 8 storytelling ingredients, due electronically by 5 pm.

IV. PRODUCTION

TH 12/1: Rough Cut for review by Freeden and Marc, to Vimeo by 5 pm.

Mon Dec 12: Final Digital Story due to Vimeo by 10am; as well the Signed Release Agreement for Student Work and Third-party Image Release, if applicable.

V. CELEBRATION & REFLECTION

**Mon Dec 12: Digital Story Premiere and End-of-Semester Lunch & Celebration.**

F 12/16: Short Reflection and self- and peer-assessment due electronically by 5 pm
