Education Intern

New Hampshire Boat Museum, Wolfeboro Falls, NH

The New Hampshire Boat Museum seeks a College Intern for the 2016 season. The internship will provide a solid introduction to museum work in general and museum education specifically. The intern will research and create an in-school curriculum for a Traveling Trunk with the theme of Steamboats of New Hampshire. Duties will be research on New Hampshire state curriculum standards, steamboats and their technology and comparable programs in other museums. The intern will then write a curriculum and source reproductions to use in the trunk. Supervision and training will be provided by the museum’s staff and education committee. The intern will set his/her own schedule working approximately 20 hours per week for eight weeks. Work must primarily be conducted during the week. Additional paid hours will be available to work the Admissions Desk allowing for a 30-40 hour work week. Admissions Desk work requires some weekends. Candidates should be in the process of completing their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in history, museum studies or education. Experience writing school curriculum desirable. Ideal candidate would be available during the museum’s open season from early June – mid October, however there is flexibility if this schedule does not fit with candidate’s schooling. A $2,000 stipend is available for this position. Additional hourly compensation for work at the Admissions Desk. No housing is available.
