REPORTS TO: Assistant Director, TERM: 7-12 hours per week, minimum of 12 weeks, STATUS: Unpaid Internship. Pettaquamscutt Historical Society was founded in 1958 to encourage the study and appreciation of the Pettaquamscutt region. Located in the Old Washington County Jail, the PHS museum and archival collections document the domestic, social, business, and cultural life in the region of the Pettaquamscutt Purchase. PHS offers educational programming and exhibitions that inspire the study and interpretation of this area’s history. POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY: The Public Programs Intern will work directly with PHS visitors, members and leadership as a docent by assisting with daily museum operations as well as by planning and executing both public events and educational programs. Interns will gain an understanding into how a non-profit organization interacts with the public through daily operations and special programs. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Lead accurate and engaging museum tours for the general public, support the development and execution of mission-related educational programs and public events, assist in the development and implementation of marketing strategies for the organization, and support daily museum operations, including staffing the museum gift shop. QUALIFICATIONS: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, interest in history, museums, and preservation, excellent time management skills, organized, and positive outlook, and research skills.
