Fall 2016 Marketing Internship [ArtsBoston, Boston, MA]

Description:
ArtsBoston seeks a marketing intern to start in September to work 20-24 hours per week through December. This is an excellent and unique opportunity to help promote and interact with 170+ performing and visual arts organizations throughout Greater Boston.
Projects include:

  • Building and creating e-mail campaigns
  • Participate at arts events and festivals on behalf of ArtsBoston, learn skills in special event planning and execution
  • Assist in managing content on the ArtsBoston Calendar, the region’s most comprehensive arts and cultural calendar
  • Creating and promoting video and/or blog content
  • Opportunity to learn the basics of media buying and trade negotiation
  • Assist with content management on social media including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

Knowledge and Attributes

  • An optimistic attitude and a willingness to help with the ability to interact positively with the public and staff
  • Demonstrated ability as a “self-starter” who shows the initiative to carry assignments beyond the original instruction in anticipation of future opportunities
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills with a demonstrated ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, including editing and creating original materials
  • Knowledge of and passion for Greater Boston’s performing and visual arts communities
  • Strong organizational skills, deadline and service driven, team oriented
Qualifications:
Interest in arts administration, civic engagement ,and cultural planning strongly preferred, especially those with a desire to live and work near Boston.

Position Title: Curatorial Intern
Department: Curatorial
Reports to: Assistant Curator of the Collection
Type of Position: Unpaid internship, part-time (16 hours per week for up to three months)

Summary of Internship

The Curatorial Intern will have the opportunity to work alongside Curatorial staff in support of the department’s projects and needs. The intern will be exposed to and have the opportunity to assist with exhibition related preparations, programming, and collection research and prepare materials for a collection digitization project.

Experience Opportunities

· Supporting research and coordination for upcoming exhibitions

  • Assisting with organization and research of curatorial object files in support of the collection digitization project
  • Researching area academic contacts for departmental programming outreach
  • Other curatorial-related administrative tasks

Educational and Training Outcomes

This internship will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the workings of a curatorial office that oversees a diverse collection of objects and will also offer the incumbent numerous opportunities to learn about the rich collection of the Gardner Museum, as well as exposure to the practices of other museum departments though cross-departmental collaboration.

Qualifications:
Requirements

  • Preferably a graduate student with a background in art history and an interest in curatorial work
  • Excellent organizational, written and communication skills
  • Able to do data entry with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and be proactive in problem solving

· Reading knowledge of a foreign language a plus
