Intern assists in day-to-day tasks of MASS MoCA’s in-house design studio, both digital and physical, working closely with the design, curatorial and marketing departments. Working directly with the Senior Designer and Junior Designer, this position is 1/3 graphic designer, 1/3 production artist, and 1/3 jack- of-all-trades. Projects include (but are not limited to) production and installation of vinyl exhibition graphics and wayfinding signage, weekly advertisement and poster design, vendor contact, upkeep of website components, and general studio tasks. Intern should demonstrate enthusiasm, stamina, good attention to detail, and willingness to work with a team. Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) required. A driver’s license might be helpful, but is not required.

Interns assist in the day-to-day operations of a busy curatorial department and help with the preparations for upcoming programs as well as the maintenance of current exhibitions. Responsibilities may include administrative duties, research, writing, and any number of unexpected errands or jobs required to help maintain an ambitious exhibition program of contemporary art. Interns will also work with the Education department, receiving training to give regular tours of exhibitions, interact with museum visitors, and develop focused “spotlight” talks on topics of special interest. This is a crucial part of the internship experience. The successful candidate should be self sufficient, have an eye for detail, strong writing and research skills, and a positive attitude about performing many kinds of tasks on a demanding schedule.
