Description:
We are seeking a smart, high energy, thoughtful organized individual to work with us for 4 – 8 hours per week. You will: assist with marketing and audience outreach at the only multicultural visual and performing arts center in New England. Work with the staff to help make our unique visual, performing arts and other events happen. Assist with marketing and production for events and gallery exhibitions.

Qualifications:
Resourceful with outstanding attention to detail; excellent written and verbal skills; computer literate – MS Word, Excel etc and experience with Facebook, Twitter and other social media. Able to follow-through on social networking and other postings. Ability to take direction and to work independently. Willingness to learn new things. Have a sense of humor and the ability to attend to details while maintaining a sense of the whole project 4 – 8 hours per week with a flexible schedule and willingness to work 4 months in this position. Be very comfortable with the public and with answering questions. Interest in the arts and social change an working with diverse communities required.

Fall 2016 Lindbergh Documentation Intern [Minnesota Historical Society, St. Paul, MN]

Project Summary (a description of your department and the project): The intern will work closely with the boyhood home of Charles A Lindbergh in Little Falls, MN. The goal of the internship is to document and research the carvings found on the walls at the site. The intern will utilize on site observation, written research, and photographic research to document the existing condition of the carvings. As possible the intern will then research the possible timeline and background on the carvings documented. This research and documentation will become the working record of the carvings that have been uncovered on the house and the report of their condition.

Student Responsibilities:

 

  • Gather necessary information from research to develop a timeline of the carvings, as possible
  • Work with MNHS staff to compile preservation recommendations for the future treatments and documentation efforts
  • Communicate clearly with site stakeholders
  • Create visual and written documentation of the site’s current carvings
  • Manage schedule and hours using Volgistics and Google Calendar
  • Coordinate necessary site visits and meetings

 

Knowledge intern is expected to gain:

 

  • Increased awareness of the preservation, planning and maintenance needs of a Historic Site
  • Experience documenting a historic building and its condition
  • Experience working and researching in a professional setting
  • Experience producing technical documents in a professional setting

 

Own Transportation Needed: The intern will need to provide transportation to the site.

Ideal degrees (Capitalize only the first one):   Architecture, history, historic preservation, museum studies, art, photography, anthropology, and archaeology

Student Qualifications: 

  • Ability to write and communicate clearly and accurately
  • Ability to research using primary and secondary resources
  • Familiarity with the National Park Service’s Interpreting the Standards Bulletins and Preservation Briefs
  • Familiarity with The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties
  • Working knowledge of the National Register of Historic Places and the Criteria for Evaluation
  • Experience working with photography
  • Familiarity with technical documentation

Additional Materials Required: 

  • Writing Sample that includes drawings, figures, diagrams or data visualizations
