Matthew Gouett’s doctoral research at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University in Ottawa seeks to determine what leads countries to create sovereign wealth funds and why some sovereign wealth funds deliver on their mandates while others do not, with a particular focus on the political and economic factors that lead to better or worse results among countries.

Matthew Gouett holds an M.A. in Political Science from the McMaster University where he focused his studies in international relations and public administration, and a B.B.A. from Wilfrid Laurier University. Prior to joining NPSIA, Matthew held professional posts in Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development and the Ontario government’s Cabinet Office.
