Most of the endowed and annual scholarships listed on the Cummings Veterinary School website are awarded on the basis of need through the Cummings financial aid application process and restricted to students who are enrolled in the DVM program.
In addition to applying for institutional and federal financial aid, students are encouraged to seek scholarship assistance from private sources. The Financial Aid Office has compiled the Outside Scholarship Opportunities list below to assist students in their scholarship search.
Information about new scholarship opportunities is made available by email announcements to students throughout the year as information is received.
Private scholarships may be offered by community organizations and are often announced in hometown newspapers. It’s a good idea to monitor your community newspaper/website regularly.
Scholarships may also be offered by professional associations, religious groups, employers and businesses.
A scholarship application or search site should not collect protected data such as your Social Security Number as part of the application process.

Online scholarship databases are useful, but should be used with caution; many have sponsors and will use the information you provide for marketing purposes. You may want to set up an email account to use only for scholarship related activity. Avoid using any service for which a fee is charged.

State Financial Aid
While many states do not offer financial aid for graduate and professional level students, it is worth researching what is available in your state of residence. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) results are sent to the applicant’s state higher education financial aid agency by the federal Central Processing Service (CPS). If your state offers financial aid to graduate students, please check the application deadline; it could be sooner than the school’s aid application deadline. To explore aid options for your state, please visit: https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/fafsa-deadlines and https://www.nasfaa.org/financial_aid_in_your_state.
Veterans Benefits
Veterans, service members, and their qualified family members may be eligible for assistance to help pay college tuition and expenses. Visit https://www.va.gov/education/ for more information, including information about the GI Bill and how to apply for benefits.

Outside Scholarship Opportunities
Although most outside scholarships are awarded based on interests related to the field of veterinary medicine, often students receive scholarships based on factors unrelated to their field of study. Scholarships may be awarded by community organizations, undergraduate schools, ethnic or religious organizations, professional organizations and employers.
Funding and deadlines may change each year. Applicants should contact the organization to verify availability and deadlines. To maintain an accurate list of non-institutional scholarship opportunities, the Financial Aid Office welcomes updates based on information provided by students.
