Parents Information & the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
As of the 2024-25 academic year, students who otherwise met the federal criteria to apply for most forms of federal aid independent of their parents cold no longer optionally include parent data on the FAFSA to receive consideration for institutional student aid or the federal Health Professions Student Loan Program (HPSL). Both sources of aid still required parent information to determine a student’s eligibility.
As a solution, the Cummings School implemented the use of the CSS Profile application to collect parent information.
If you are under the age of 24 and have the option to provide parent information when you complete the FAFSA, you have likely selected an incorrect grade level. Only students planning to enroll at the undergraduate level who are under the age of 24 will have an option to provide parent data on the FAFSA. The FAFSA must be corrected to reflect the right enrollment information for the award year if you are planning to apply for aid for a veterinary school program. The school will be unable to package federal aid if your FAFSA is not correct.
