“Smart” Flowers!

Three LEGO flowers in an improvised vase made of a plastic bottle and some cardboard. The vase sits on a desk next to a computer showing the Duinomaker block code, and an Arduino with some electronics connected to it.

Recently the CEEO received a gift of flowers from the LEGO Foundation — but the weren’t your ordinary bouquet! It was the LEGO Flower Bouquet, from their Botanicals line of products. It was a lovely gesture of thanks for our ongoing work in the Tech and Play initiative. In return, we wanted to use some of these beautiful flowers to showcase our current collaboration with RABC on our smart motor designs.

Our friends at RABC have been developing a block-based IDE for Arduino called Duinomaker, and we’ve been playing around with creating new blocks to facilitate the easy use of trainable motors and servos. In the video below, you’ll see how easy it is to train a motor to react to light. What a fun project!
