Web and Communications Outreach Coordinator – Environmental Grantmakers Association (New York, NY)

The Web and Communications Outreach Coordinator is an online organizer for EGA; streamlining communications across organization, using technology to implement new strategic approaches to engaging EGA membership with the organization’s new website, programs and communications. This Coordinator also provides ample administrative support while organizing the membership virtually and at events.

Duties:
Communications (40 percent)

  • Assist with communications plan creation and implementation
  • Manage EGA website (consistently updating all content, blogging and recruiting guest bloggers, maintaining member database, keeping information fresh and relevant, like member highlights, photos, videos, tweets), working with Knowledge and Program Manager and web designer as needed
  • Keep website up-to-date with event information and resources (planning workbooks, speaker information, agendas, event blogging, recordings)
  • Manage EGA listserve

Member Services: Events and Webinars (30 percent)

  • Assist Member Services Manager with all concurrent session and keynote speaker logistics for events
  • Assist with prospective member outreach and other projects as needed
  • Provide logistical support for all EGA webinars
  • Lead 3 – 4 relevant webinars per year

General and Administrative (30 percent)

  • Provide basic office administrative support (filtering mail, phone calls, responding to member queries, maintaining orderly office space, shipping and mailings as needed, ordering supplies, etc.)
  • Assist bookkeeper and Executive Director with managing organizational expenses
  • Lead on paperless office and implementing Liquid Planner for staff and project management
  • Assist Executive Director with building and uploading board books, record and distribute meeting minutes, and with general scheduling, expense reports, and other administrative tasks
  • Travel and attend networking events as needed

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience in the following areas:

  • grassroots organizing, philanthropy, or program outreach/support;
  • producing high quality and engaging content for online and print materials;
  • environmental communications; experience with managing online advocacy or engagement tools, and data systems;
  • experience and enthusiasm for working with people and committee processes related to event planning and logistics coordination;
  • enjoy engaging with a wide range of people in person at events, as well as focusing on small group work and individual areas of responsibility;
  • creative, self-starting, super organized, highly detail-orientated individual with the ability to find innovative uses of tools and technology to implement effective and efficient engagement strategies;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • basic design and image formatting skills, knowledge of HTML, and best practices for publishing engaging web content.

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, work well independently and as a team are essential.

Regional Organizer – CoFED (Nationwide)

CoFED Regional Organizer Fellows will build the cooperative and food movement by helping students start and run cooperative food ventures on campuses across North America.

As a Regional Organizer Fellow, you will participate in problem solving and peer learning with student teams and allies. You will support approximately 5 team projects in your region by cultivating relationships and facilitating progress with each team. Projects in each region range from cafés and food trucks to buying clubs and grocery stores. You will also foster regional identity with the movement by bringing together student teams, mentors, and consultants in a solidarity network.

The fellowship prepares you for a career in cooperative business and food justice. As part of the CoFED team, CoFED provides you with intensive training and dedicated support in organizing, cooperative business development, and food business. You’ll also gain skills in movement building, business incubation, and nonprofits. As well, all Regional Organizers receive hands-on experience (30 hours/week), a need-based monthly stipend ($900-1,300), reimbursements for expenses and professional development (conferences, trainings, and more), and mentorship from food and cooperative leaders and experts.

We’re looking for ambitious, passionate individuals familiar with student organizing, food justice, food business, and cooperatives.

Ideal candidates have experience in student leadership and campus organizing. They are deeply familiar with working at and/or opening a cooperative enterprise, or any organization with empowerment at the core of its mission. A successful RO Fellow brings or builds the following skills and abilities to this position: organizing, case management, and project management; face-to-face and long-distance communication; delivering education, training, and facilitation; sales or fundraising for building membership; and networking for regional and organizational development.

Community Green Lead – USGBC (Boston, MA)

USGBC is seeking a talented and enthusiastic professional with an interest and experience working in the community college sector to create career pathways for a green economy. The position will oversee the Center for Green Schools’ efforts to engage community college staff, faculty and students in green building education and training opportunities. The Community Green Lead will be responsible for proactively increasing engagement of under-represented populations within USGBC and Center for Green Schools’ higher education programs and networks.

Specific responsibilities include

  • Grow the Community Green network and manage the daily program operations
  • Recruit, manage and support the efforts of regionally based volunteers to lead local outreach and engagement efforts to community colleges
  • Facilitate an annual in-person training for volunteers
  • Promote USGBC institutional membership to community colleges, support existing members, and track activities

Educational Program Coordinator – theMOVE (Cambridge, MA)

theMOVE (getoutma.org) organizes farm-volunteer workdays for diverse urban groups throughout Metro Boston, to connect our participants hands-on with fresh food, and with the labor and land that sustain us. We focus most of our outreach towards low income communities, people of color, and youth. We primarily work with schools and community organizations to set up trips for their groups, but we also host occasional open sign-up trips for individual adults and families. We are seeking an energetic Educational Program Coordinator to coordinate and lead our trips this season.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the position will vary, but will foremost comprise the coordination of farm-volunteer trips:
(a) match/schedule groups with appropriate farms, and plan out trips using varied transportation;
(b) facilitate workdays, oversee the work, and keep volunteers motivated and cared for (we will strive to have
two staff members on all trips; the program coordinator will oversee at least 2/3 of them);
(c) lead reflective educational activities (including pre/post sessions at groups’ program sites across Boston);
(d) administer a simple impact survey at end of trips, and tabulate data.
 Additionally, the educational programs coordinator will:
(a) conduct outreach to community groups to get new audiences excited about farm-volunteering;
(b) develop reflective/educational activities for use on trips, to expand our existing curriculum;
(c) refer participants to further community engagement/education opportunities, and develop systems to do so;
(d) support fundraising and community event organizing efforts, as needed.
COMPENSATION: $16 per hour (no health/vacation benefits)
HOURS: 40 hours per week (flexible scheduling – will range 30-50 hours/week)

Summer Internship – Baltimore Food Policy Initiative 2013 (Baltimore, MD)

The BFPI summer internship position will provide an opportunity to work on a wide variety of BFPI’s current food access projects. BFPI is currently focused on several food access strategies to increase access to healthy food in Baltimore City food deserts including, but not limited to, public markets, farmers markets, and the city’s Food Desert Retail Strategy. The internship will also involve promoting these strategies, increasing communication among our partners, and promoting the work of partner organizations involved in Food PAC, through various social media outlets.

Qualifications include strong technical writing skills, ability to multi-task several projects at one time, and Master’s Degree or pursuing Master’s Degree preferred. The internship is a paid, full-time (40 hours a week) position that will work from the Department of Planning from approximately June 3rd-August 2st, 2013.

Citi Sustainability Internship – Citi Bank (New York, NY)

Overview: Will provide programmatic and research support to a three-person team in Citi’s Corporate Sustainability unit, which oversees environmental and human rights issues for Citi. Citi’s Corporate Sustainability program is implemented in partnership with Citi’s three primary units: Institutional Clients Group, Consumer Banking, and Operations & Technology.

Program Associate – Bard College (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY)

Bard College’s MBA in Sustainability is seeking a Program Associate to oversee the day-to-day operations of the program. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Program Associate’s primary responsibilities will include:

  • Bookkeeping and Accounts Payable
  • Event planning including coordinating space needs and other logistics for classes and events in both Manhattan and on the Bard Campus

Nonprofit Leadership (Marin SEL) Fellow – Strategic Energy Innovations (San Rafael, CA)

Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI) is seeking a dedicated individual, passionate about working in the non-profit sector, to provide a year of service as a full-time, paid fellow for a cutting edge organization focused on designing innovative solutions to address community climate, energy and resource efficiency goals.

SEI’s Nonprofit Leadership Fellow will have the opportunity to work directly with our Executive Director, in addition working in one or more of our primary program areas (Eco-Smart Education, Green Housing, and Sustainable Communities,) depending on candidate background/ interests and our need for project development and support.  This is a full-time (approximately 12-month) paid position, based out of our San Rafael, Marin County Office.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with the intended mid-year start date (exact dates to be negotiated.)  This position offers exceptional training and professional development and exposure in the areas of climate/energy sustainability and non-profit fundraising/ management.

Support Areas and Associated Responsibilities

This fellow will work on planning and implementing cutting edge resource efficiency programs, with exposure to key components of program design, promotion/ fundraising, implementation, reporting and evaluation:

  • Marin School of Environmental Leadership – Approximately half of the fellow’s focus will support our work on MarinSEL (www.MarinSEL.org).  This new “school within a school” combines the breadth and diversity of public education with the depth and integrated learning of project-based education.  At MarinSEL, teachers guide students through inquiry-based projects where they apply theories from multiple disciplines to address real world environmental and social issues.  Rigorous academics are united with field-based opportunities and service to community, building leadership skills as students become stewards of their environment.  The fellow will support the Executive Director in overall management of this innovative program, working with teachers, students, and volunteers to ensure success.
  • Climate/ Energy Program Support – Depending on interest and experience, a portion of the fellow’s time will be spent in direct support of one of our many programs in the areas of eco-education and curriculum development, green housing, and sustainable communities.
  • Proposal Support – A portion of the fellow’s focus will entail working across SEI Directors and Managers to write grant applications to fund our work.
  • Special Project Support – Under the direction of SEI’s Executive Director, the fellow will devote the balance of hours to help plan for and implement new and innovative programs that expand our team’s collective body of work and measurable impact.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate is highly skilled working across the Microsoft suite of office automation software (e.g.: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).  Qualified candidates will also evidence strong quantitative, written and verbal communication skills, in addition to the following:

K12 Spring-Summer Associate – USGBC

The Center for Green Schools seeks a K-12 Sector Spring-Summer Associate to join our team, to provide support to a variety of established programs and events within the Center for Green Schools, as well as directly contribute to the ongoing work and development of several new initiatives. Late spring through summer are some of the busiest months for the Center for Green Schools, and this associate will directly contribute to the success of several of our highest profile events and most dynamic programs.

Learning Objectives

After completing the internship, the Associate will be able to:

  • Demonstrate experience in a fast-paced workplace
  • Clearly express concepts of sustainability and green building advocacy

Position Details include:

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for several high profile events through the spring and summer, including but not limited to attendee registration support and follow up, program/material preparation and onsite logistics
  • Provide direct support for national network of USGBC Chapter volunteers, including regular email and phone contact regarding multiple programs, deadlines and deliverables, particularly pertaining to a large annual meeting and collection and analysis of biannual activity reports
  • Support the roll-out of a membership package for K12 schools and districts, by assisting with outreach to recruit new members and onboarding efforts to welcome them.   • Assist with the development of state-level grassroots and NGO partnerships; working with the USGBC Chapter network and members of the Coalition for Green Schools, the Associate will assist Center staff and volunteers in supporting state-based Coalitions for Green Schools
  • Assist with marketing and outreach efforts to K12 educators and supporting organizations for the Green Classroom Professional Certificate program

Assistant Director of Spirituality, Service and Social Justice – University of Puget Sound (Tacoma, WA)

Responsibilities
The assistant director of Spirituality, Service, and Social Justice will be responsible for lead coordination of campus initiatives related to community service and social justice. They will have a particular responsibility for risk management related to student volunteer and immersion opportunities, and will supervise student staff who provide direct leadership for a range of campus programs related to service and social justice. They will also assist in supporting and developing new service/immersion/reflection opportunities, and work with the directors of Spirituality, Service and Social Justice (SSSJ) and Multicultural Student Services (MCSS) in developing and implementing leadership and training opportunities for students related to both departments.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Student staff/leader development and supervision.
- Develop, present, and encourage participation in service/justice/immersion programs for Puget Sound students.
- Supervision of students leading JuST, Alternative Break, Food Salvage, Kids Can Do, ETC programs, and/or other departmental service/justice programs.
- Assist faculty, staff, and student leaders as they develop and implement community service/justice/immersion initiatives.
- Risk management for student community service and social justice/immersion programs.
- Direct leadership of Alternative Break and MLK Day of Service programs.
- Assessment, review, and re-development of service/justice/immersion programs and resources.
