3D bioengineered model of human enteric nervous system

Project Summary:
The number of neurons within the enteric nervous system (ENS) surrounding the gastrointestinal tract (GI) rivals that of the neurons found within the spinal cord. Bidirectional interactions between the central nervous system and the GI are beginning to surface, but the connections that form these interactions are largely unmapped. This works aims to develop a 3D human model of the human enteric nervous system to elucidate the role of the intestine in neuromodulation.
