Traumatic Brain injuries: advanced model engineering, fundamental understanding of the molecular mechanisms, and replacement therapy

Project Summary:
This work is focused on creation of suitable 3D injury models that can be used to study brain pathology after various types of brain traumas, moreover how to treat the consequences and regenerate the damaged areas of the brain. Our first model is a complex cortical model with 6 layered structure to study the contusion trauma from various perspectives, functional, cellular and molecular. This project covers the contribution of every cell type to the injury propagation and further tissue regeneration. Our second model is a novel stroke model to better understand the major injury players and possibilities to mitigate the tissue damage, and potentially trigger recovery. At last, we use a brain tissue model as a replacement therapy to treat large size brain defects.
