Tisch College Solomont Speaker Series: Congressman Jamie Raskin – “Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy”

Tuesday, March 29 | 6:00 PM ET | Virtual Event

Join Tisch College for a conversation with Congressman Jamie Raskin, who represents Maryland’s 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Earlier this year, Congressman Raskin released his New York Times number one best-selling memoir, Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy, which documents the forty-five days at the start of 2021 as he is confronted with the painful loss of his son to suicide, the violent insurrection in our nation’s Capitol, and leading the impeachment effort of President Trump.

In Congress, Rep. Raskin served as the Lead House Manager in the second Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, which ended with a 57-43 vote to convict the president for inciting a violent insurrection against the government to overthrow the 2020 presidential election. Last summer, he was appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to serve on the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. He is serving his third term on the House Judiciary, Oversight and Administration Committees and is serving his second term on the Rules Committee. Prior to Congress, Raskin was a three-term State Senator in Maryland and a professor of constitutional law for more than a quarter-century at American University Washington College of Law. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he served as an Editor of the Harvard Law Review. In addition to his book Unthinkable, he has authored We the Students and the Washington Post best-seller Overruling Democracy: The Supreme Court versus the American People.

**The first 10 Tufts students to register for the event will receive a free copy of Congressman Raskin’s book, “Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy.”

This event is generously cosponsored by the Political Science Department and the Civic Studies Program.
