D24 Students at St. Francis House Dental Workshop
Read on to hear what D24s have to say about volunteering at the St. Francis House!
“Returning to St. Francis House (SFH) each month to host dental workshops has further deepened our relationship with the community in a positive way. Connecting with the occupants and the staff has been extremely rewarding and goes beyond healthcare because establishing a presence in an otherwise overlooked group of people is important to us. Those who visit SFH know that Tufts Dental Students will return every month to educate them about proper oral healthcare and that we will be handing out oral health necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss. This month, we distributed approximately 150 toothbrushes, floss, and toothpaste! The effort does not go unnoticed as everyone who visits the workshops is engaged and happy to receive a “goody bag”. We hope to not only offer a sense of stability for the occupants at SFH through our continued monthly presence but to also provide some familiarity and education surrounding proper oral hygiene and oral health care necessities.” -D24s Alexis Alicea, Eduardo Benavides and Nikkol Diehl.
