TUSDM’s great weekend at the 14th Annual ASDA District 1 Debate!
At the 14th Annual ASDA District 1 Debate, student teams from Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, University of New England College of Dental Medicine, and a Pre-Dental team debated on pertinent policies and ethical issues confronting students and practitioners today. Students presented their arguments on either the affirmative or opposing side of the discussion. The judges were Dr. George Shepley (ADA President), Dr. Dylan Webber (MDS At-Large Trustee), and Dr. Mira Khouzam (MDS Guest Board Member).
For the first round, BU and Harvard students debated on the issue “should amalgam be phased out of dental school training?.” Our Tufts representatives, Anna Lubitz (D26) and Ritika (D26), and a pre-dental team debated on the issue “should more dental schools integrate students into a medical school curriculum?” Then, UConn and UNE students debated on the issue “should the U.S. implement mid-level providers to address dental shortage areas?” The top two teams will debate in the final round arguing on the topic of dental specialists. We are extremely proud of how well Anna and Ritika represented Tufts this year and commend them for their incredible arguments and decorum at the event!
