DRA’s FAQ of the Week: I have an appointment at another institution that has an IRB. Do I have to submit research I do at that institution to this IRB?

Yes, only if you are engaging Tufts in the research. Researchers affiliated with TUSDM/TMC must submit for Tufts IRB review any human research project they will be involved in if it will be conducted at Tufts or on behalf of Tufts somewhere else. Simplified Review Framework for NIH Research Project Grant Applications

Reminder: Use of SciENcv is required for NSF proposals

NIH Loan Repayment Programs

Researchers who secure a qualified position funded by a domestic nonprofit, university or U.S. government entity may be eligible for loan repayment. Health professionals who have doctoral-level degrees and are conducting biomedical or behavioral research funded by domestic nonprofit or government organizations may be eligible for up to $50,000 of NIH loan repayment per year to repay educational debts. REMINDER: ADEA Award Applications Are Due Nov. 1!

ADEA recognizes achievement and distinction among its members through an awards program. In conjunction with ADEA’s corporate partners, ADEA offers student scholarships, awards for educators and funding opportunities for various fellowships. Speak with your dean, academic dean or program director to request a letter of nomination—a requirement for many ADEA awards. The submission deadline for the majority of scholarships, awards and fellowships is Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023. Award recipients are recognized during the the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition on March 9-12, 2024. Upcoming Trainings, Workshops, and Opportunites

Office of the Vice Provost for Research  Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training – November 30 and December 7, 14 and 21 and 8The RCR Course at Tufts University is designed to meet NIH and NSF requirements for grant-funded research. The purpose of the course is to help guide the Tufts University research community in understanding the multi-faceted aspects of research integrity and to reinforce the importance of conducting research in an honest, objective, and responsible way. 

Four Thursdays (November 30 and December 7, 14 and 21 and 8) from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm – location will be the OVPR conference room on the 9th floor of 75 Kneeland Street. 

Attendance to all four dates on either campus is required for certification of completion of training.

1) Deborah Munroe Noonan Memorial Research Fund
About: The Deborah Munroe Noonan Memorial Research Fund, established in 1947 by Frank M. Noonan
in memory of his mother, continues its proud tradition of supporting improvements in the quality of life
for children and adolescents with disabilities with two-year grants up to $160,000 (inclusive of 20%
indirect costs). Recognizing that health services and supports are provided in a wide range of community
settings as well as hospitals, the Noonan Research program supports innovative clinical and service
system research, pilot, and evaluation projects from both nonprofit organizations and academic
institutions that serve children and adolescents with chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or
emotional disabilities and associated health-related complications. Eligible organizations and target
populations must be within the Fund’s geographic area of interest of Greater Boston.
Eligibility: Neither a faculty position nor an advanced degree is required. Investigators may be advanced practice providers, registered nurses, educators, allied therapists, social workers, and/or other community members that work with children and adolescents with disabilities

About: The purpose of this opportunity is to fund innovative initiatives and events that have a clear connection to civic life. Seeking proposals that:
• Demonstrate innovation and creativity in addressing issues affecting civic life including but not limited to promoting diversity and equity, education, political participation, environment and food justice, technology and other societal issues.
• Include adequate training and/or preparation for stakeholders (including Tufts students) involved.
• Seek to apply what is learned in the classroom, bring theory to practice.
• Build connections across disciplines and fields.
Eligibility: Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Tufts University school/professional program.

About: The purpose of this opportunity is to support highly integrated research teams to address challenging questions with the potential to significantly advance dental, oral and craniofacial (DOC) fields of research. Each project should have a unified and well-defined scientific goal within the NIDCR mission that requires a team with diverse perspectives and expertise in a variety of intellectual or technical areas and is beyond the experience and capabilities of one or two investigators. Teams are encouraged to consider transformative, and disruptive innovative objectives with defined 5-year outcomes.
