CADA Hosts Cultural Workshop: “Interacting with Chinese Patients”

The workshop titled “Interacting with Chinese Patients” primarily focused on providing insight to dental students on giving dental care to patients with a Chinese cultural background. During the workshop, CADA e-board members gave a presentation on Chinese patients’ demographics, their perspectives on dental care, the financial challenges of Chinese patients, and the Chinese diet. Guests were also provided with a cheat sheet that included common dental terminologies and Chinese pronunciation for their use in the clinic.

The most notable benefit of this workshop was helping colleagues provide culturally sensitive care to their Chinese patients. Many participants expressed their thanks for this learning opportunity and the resources they had been looking for. In addition, the event created a sense of inclusion, as TUSDM students are aware of the diversity of our patient population, and strive to provide the best care we can to them.

CADA would like to express their appreciation to all the guests ranging from D24 to D27 at the workshop. They would also like to give a special shoutout to Nancy Marks, TUSDM’s community service coordinator, for attending the workshop and supporting the club.

Lastly, the success of this event could have not occurred without the collaborative effort of CADA club members, including co-presidents Ainsley Chung (D25) and Greg Yip (D25), event coordinators Wayne Chen (D25), Helen Zheng (D25), and Eddie Hou (D24), and outreach coordinators Pierce Shen (D25), Clement Liu (D24), and Weijia Li (D25). CADA is looking forward to continuing such initiatives in the future!
