Community Service Reflection: TUSDM Department of Public Health Volunteering

On Friday, February 16th, six TUSDM students, in collaboration with the Department of Public Health via Dr. Forero, visited Waltham Creative Start in Waltham, MA to give oral health and nutrition presentations to several classrooms.

As part of National Children’s Oral Health Month, the Head Start Program had already begun lessons on oral health and hygiene. To supplement their lessons, TUSDM students engaged with over 80 children, ages 3 to 6, to give visual and hands-on presentations that included information on functions of the mouth, nutrition, oral hygiene, and dental office visits. Children were able to practice brushing techniques on plush toys and participated in a flossing exercise.

It was a wonderful event students, teachers, administrators, and volunteers all enjoyed! Thank you to the Waltham Creative Start for their partnership. TUSDM looks forward to working with them in the future!
