Special Smiles and Partners Host Successful STEAM and Wellness Night at Josiah Quincy Elementary

On March 27, 2024, Josiah Quincy Elementary School (JQES) was buzzing with excitement as Tufts Special Smiles, alongside several partners, hosted a dynamic STEAM and Wellness Night. This engaging event aimed to blend education with fun activities, promoting both science and health awareness among the attending students and parents.

Partnerships formed the backbone of this enriching evening, with notable contributors including Tufts Dental, Big Brother Big Sister, Big Sister Boston, YMCA, Lego Robotics, Makey Makey, DIY Solar Eclipse Glasses, LED Space Jewelry, Minni Art, and Mr. Levett’s obstacle course.

A highlight of the evening was the presence of members from Tufts Special Smiles, who engaged students in quizzes and activities about oral health and distributed essential dental care items such as toothbrushes, floss, and toothpaste to the students. The enthusiasm and knowledge displayed by the students left the volunteers thoroughly impressed, showcasing their eagerness to learn about maintaining healthy teeth and gums.

Guiding the event were volunteers, including Tufts Dental students Natalie Masone (D25) and Samira Ahmed (D27), whose energy and commitment enriched the experience for all attendees. Additionally, they were led by dedicated faculty volunteer Martha Forero, DDS, MS, FICD, leader of the school-based dental clinic at JQES.

Overall, the presence of Tufts Special Smiles at STEAM and Wellness Night at Josiah Quincy Elementary School proved to be a resounding success, inspiring students to embrace both the wonders of science and the importance of oral health!
