Tufts Chapter of HSDA achieves multiple successes in NY
On June 20–23, the Tufts chapter of the Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA) participated in the HSDA Student Regional Preliminary Event Program and the Hispanic Dental Association (HDA) Annual Meeting in New York City and White Plains, NY, respectively.
The events were opportunities to expand professional networks, clinical knowledge, and cultural competences.
TUSDM’s teams earned first place in the Educational Programs Inspiring Communities (EPIC) Challenge and an honorable mention during the 2024 Orgullo Awards.
“These awards are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and exceptional talent of last year’s executive board, and we are thrilled to bring [the awards] back to TUSDM,” said incoming HSDA President Jeancarlos Ferman, D25.
Ferman also identified the individual achievements of their members:
Erika Magana, D25, and Diana Florencio, D27, were awarded scholarships by the Hispanic Dental Association Foundation.
Jessica Jordan, D25, presented her research project, “Dentists’ Experience, Education, and Interest Regarding Dental Care for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder.”
Ferman also recognized the students who contributed to TUSDM’s success in the EPIC Challenge and at the Orgullo Awards:
EPIC Challenge team: Chairperson Yansiel Luna, D26; Kelly Perez, D26; Christina Maglite, D26; and Kevin Falcon, D26.
Orgullo Contest team: Adriana Iturbide, D25; Yesenia Reyes, D26; Valquiria de Laurenzio, D26; and Jeancarlos Ferman, D25.
In addition, during the HDA Annual Meeting, faculty advisor Dr. Martha Forero, assistant professor for the Department of Public Health & Community Service, received an HDA Community Leadership Fellowship certificate in acknowledgment of her becoming a member of the HDA Community Leadership Fellowship Network.
