Best Buddies Presentation about Disability Etiquette

On March 19th, 2025, a representative and a Citizen State Ambassador from Best Buddies MA and RI and came to Tufts to provide us with information about the organization, ways students can get involved and a presentation about disability etiquette. The mission of Best Buddies International is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, inclusive living and family support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Paris and Michael taught us about the Social Model of Disability and removing barriers in society to enable individuals with IDD to reach their full potential. It is important to not be ableist and think first, act second. We learned about upcoming events such as the Ambassador Showcase on April 17th and the Ambassador Training event on April 30th. Special Smiles will continue to partner with Best Buddies to attend Citizen events, foster relationships and learn more about how we better serve the community to ultimately provide the best care for our patients.

If you’re interested in joining Special Smiles and participating in Best Buddies events, please reach out to Tatiana Ozone (President) or Meghan Wright (Vice President) at Tatiana.ozone@tufts.edu and Meghan.wright@tufts.edu.
