HSDA takes on the La Colaborativa Summer Fair

At the recent summer fair hosted by La Colaborativa in Chelsea, Massachusetts, members of the Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA) at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine had the opportunity to engage directly with the community in a meaningful way. The in-person event welcomed an estimated 500–700 attendees and focused on advancing health equity for women, immigrants, and sexual and gender minorities by improving access to preventive and primary care services. The fair brought together numerous organizations to provide essential resources such as health screenings, education, and referrals.

HSDA was represented by three dedicated volunteers: Diana Florencio (D27), Valquiria De Laurenzio (D26), and Jasmine Jenkins (D27). These students distributed oral hygiene kits including toothbrushes, toothpaste, and bilingual educational pamphlets. Volunteers demonstrated proper brushing techniques to individuals and families. The team engaged with a diverse age group, ranging from young children to older adults, and emphasized the importance of daily oral care as part of overall health.

This outreach effort was organized by HSDA’s community outreach committee and reinforced our organization’s mission to serve as advocates for oral health equity. It was an inspiring day of service that strengthened the bond between TUSDM and the local community while providing an invaluable learning experience for our student volunteers.
