Special Smiles Olympic Summer Games

On Saturday June 7th, Special Smiles proudly participated in the Special Olympics Summer Games! At the Harvard location, they volunteered in the athlete’s village at the oral health tent bringing their smiles and positive energy. Third and fourth-year students performed oral screenings with guidance of Dr. Forero and Dr. Papthanasiou. Meanwhile the first and second-year dental students participated in oral hygiene instructions and helped record the screening findings. At this event, they collaborated with dental students from Boston University and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences to service as many athletes as possible. The day was filled with lots of laughter, bubbles, learning and of course fluoride!  At Boston University’s Nickerson field, other students participated with Massachusetts Dental Society for Unified Track. They recorded times, measured javelin throws, and most importantly cheered on and supported the athletes. They look forward to next year and bringing an even bigger group!
