Student Interpreter Pilot Program

Open to students with a) bilingual proficiency and b) an interest in interpreting chairside in the TUSDM clinics. Please see below for details.

Background

As part of our Promoting Access to Language Services in Oral Health project, we are partnering with Cross Cultural Communication Systems, Inc. (CCCS) to train skilled, bilingual dental students to become qualified interpreters in oral health settings.

Need To Know

·         Must pass a language fluency screening prior to course enrollment

·         Training involves a 60-hour Art of Medical Interpretation course (outside of the required TUSDM curriculum)

·         Opportunity to serve as a qualified, Student Interpreter (with compensation) within the TUSDM clinics following course completion

·         First course enrollment (6-week course) starts September 4th-Oct 9th (M/Tu/Th – 6pm-10pm)

·         Costs related to this interpreter training will be fully funded by the Promoting Access to Language Services in Oral Health grant

Eligibility

·         Open to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-year students (no more than 10 students may enroll at this time)

·         Successful completion of pre-course language screening

·         Must be in good academic standing
