HSDA Helps with Back to School Drive
At the Pedro Martinez Foundation Back to School Drive at South Lawrence East School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, members of the Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA) at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine had the privilege of engaging with families and children as they prepared for the new school year. The event, which took place on Saturday, August 30, united community partners in providing backpacks, school supplies, and food to support local students.
In attendance from HSDA were Ana Gabriela Jimenez (D28), America Hernandez (D28), and Dr. Martha Forero, DDS, MS, FICD. The group shared dental hygiene kits; including toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss tailored to different age groups, while also offering oral health education to highlight the value of healthy daily habits. Families of all ages interacted with the volunteers, learning practical tips for preventive care and the connection between oral health and overall well-being.
This effort underscored HSDA’s commitment to promoting oral health equity and serving the broader community. It was an uplifting afternoon that not only equipped families with important resources for the school year ahead but also strengthened Tufts’ partnership with the community.
