Special Smiles: Visits to Josiah Quincy Elementary School

In March and April, the members of Special Smiles volunteered at Josiah Quincy Elementary School, where they engaged with students who have special health care needs and IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities). During these sessions, the volunteers assisted the students in becoming more familiar with dental office items such as gloves, bibs, glasses, electric toothbrushes, and suction straws. They shared their knowledge about oral health using various tools, including posters, Rex the Dinosaur, and interactive happy/sad teeth activities.

The collaboration between Special Smiles volunteers and the students of JQES is always a rewarding experience. Together, they explored the fundamentals of proper tooth-brushing techniques and gained some experience touching and getting used to different dental supplies. The students especially loved playing with the electric toothbrush and protective glasses! Special Smiles extends heartfelt gratitude to Josiah Quincy Elementary School for their continued support in facilitating these educational sessions on oral health every month.
