Special Smiles and Autism Smiles Members Attend the Annual Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) Educational Conference
From March 21-23, a group of faculty and students from the student organizations Autism Smiles and Special Smiles had the honor of representing Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) at the 37th Annual Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) Educational Conference. The team included students Natalie Masone, Meghan Wright, Grace Davis, and Jessica Jordan, along with faculty advisors Dr. Martha Forero and Dr. Karin Arsenault.
Founded in 1937, the SCDA is the oldest organization dedicated to advancing the oral health and well-being of individuals with complex dental needs. It serves as a platform for dental professionals passionate about providing quality care to individuals with unique and often challenging requirements.
At the conference, the TUSDM team had the opportunity to hear from esteemed speakers, engage in continuing education courses, and connect with peers and professionals in the field. Additionally, TUSDM students attended lectures by Dr. Martha Forero and Dr. Karin Arsenault, where they shared insights on the Autism Smiles program and the simulated geriatric course held at TUSDM.
Overall, the conference provided an exciting opportunity to exchange ideas, collaborate with fellow professionals, and reinforce their commitment to improving the oral health of individuals with special care needs.
