Healthy Kids Day at the Wang YMCA

Healthy Kids Day at the Chinatown YMCA was a vibrant community event aimed at promoting the well-being of children and families through health education, resources, and fun activities. Our team focused specifically on raising awareness about oral health among young children and their parents, emphasizing the importance of early dental care, proper brushing and flossing techniques, and healthy dietary habits that support strong teeth.

We engaged children with interactive demonstrations and handed out educational materials that were both informative and kid-friendly. Our goal was not only to provide knowledge but to make learning about oral health fun and approachable for all ages.

We were fortunate to have Scott Huang (D26) from the Chinese American Dental Association (CADA) join us. His ability to communicate fluently in Chinese allowed us to better serve the local community by ensuring that language was not a barrier to receiving important health information. His presence helped bridge the gap and foster meaningful conversations with many parents and grandparents in attendance.

The event was a collaborative effort, featuring a variety of other health and wellness vendors, each contributing to the broader mission of supporting families in living healthier lives. Representing the Tufts dental community were Panashe Gadaga (D27), Sarah Elmosbah (D27), Kennedey Boyette (D28), and Scott Huang (D26), all of whom played an active role in outreach, education, and engagement.

Overall, Healthy Kids Day was a meaningful opportunity to connect with the Chinatown community, share valuable oral health knowledge, and contribute to the larger public health initiative in a fun, inclusive, and impactful setting.

Thank you to Panashe Gadaga for this DC Entry.
