Volunteer with Tufts at the 2026 Boston Marathon

Dear Tufts community members,

The time has arrived to sign up to volunteer with Tufts at the 2026 Boston Marathon.

As in previous years, the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) has allotted Tufts an exclusive number of volunteer spots for Marathon Monday, April 20, 2026. Volunteering at the marathon is a great opportunity to participate in this historic Boston tradition. Your service on race day provides all runners, including your fellow Jumbos, with the support they need to finish the 26.2-mile course. This year, our volunteers will once again dedicate their day to supporting activities at hydration stations by providing water and words of encouragement to runners at critical points throughout the race.

All volunteers receive a Boston Marathon volunteer jacket and commemorative pin. In addition, Tufts volunteers receive a Tufts hat so that they are easily identifiable to runners and spectators along the course. For those needing transportation, we will provide buses from the Medford/Somerville campus to volunteer assignments.

From the earliest hours of the day to the last runner to cross the finish line, volunteers are crucial to the success of the marathon. Tufts has a limited number of volunteer spots for Marathon Monday each year, so please register only if you’re confident you can fully commit to volunteering on Monday, April 20, 2026.

To indicate your interest in volunteering, please complete this volunteer interest form. Remember Tufts’ volunteer spots are limited, so filling out the volunteer interest form as soon as possible and no later than January 29, 2026 is strongly encouraged. You will be notified between January 30 and February 5, 2026 if a volunteer spot has been secured for you. After February 6, you may direct any questions that you have to marathonvolunteer@tufts.edu.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to participate firsthand in the excitement and community of the Boston Marathon. As we approach Marathon Monday, all confirmed volunteers will receive an email from Tufts regarding transportation options to assigned locations and emails directly from the BAA with specific details about their volunteer assignment.
