The 3rd Annual Tufts Cherish Chinatown Neighborhood Clean-up will take place on May 10 from 12:30-3 p.m. Tufts students, faculty and staff volunteers will fan out in the streets surrounding the Tufts Boston Health Sciences Campus to help community partners complete beautification projects and pick up neighborhood trash. Over 100 Tufts University students, faculty, and staff join together at our annual Cherish Chinatown neighborhood cleanup. Volunteers pick up trash, plant flowers, and organize supply rooms at local nonprofits—all while learning about the history of the neighborhood and ways to get more involved with our Chinatown community partners.
This May, please join us for our third annual Tufts Cherish Chinatown Cleanup! Tufts University students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to come out and show support for the Chinatown community at our annual day of neighborhood outreach set for Wednesday, May 10th at 12:30pm.

This is a great opportunity for all to learn more about our role as providers and neighbors within Chinatown, and to serve our host community with intent.
Cherish Chinatown is a Tufts University initiative that was started in spring 2021 by dental and medical students with support from the Office of Government and Community Relations and Tisch College.
The aim of this initiative is to:
1. Educate Tufts students and employees about the history and cultural importance of Boston’s Chinatown.
2. Organize community engagement opportunities that support Chinatown residents, small businesses, and non-profit organizations in conjunction with Chinatown leaders.
On the day of the cleanup, we will have a Tufts University welcome table with cleanup supplies, directions, and snacks from a local Chinatown bakery. All volunteers will receive an email prior to the event with logistics for the day and then will also be provided with a follow-up handout of ways to stay involved and be a good neighbor.
Tentative Schedule:
Note: we will have treats from local bakeries and refreshments at check-in but we recommend eating lunch prior to arriving or bringing lunch with you to eat on the courtyard before departing for service sites at 1pm.
12:30pm check in begins
12:45pm orientation & meet team members
1:00pm volunteers depart for service sites
3:00pm volunteers return from service sites
3:15pm debrief & wrap up
Please sign up by Friday, May 5th, so that we can ensure we have sufficient materials for all volunteers. If your plans change and you are no longer available after you’ve signed up, please email communityrelations@tufts.edu.
We hope to see you on May 10th!
