Colonel Jason McCune
Colonel Jason McCune enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1993 and was subsequently commissioned as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer in 2002. He transferred to the United States Army as an Adjutant General Officer in 2006. His military education includes the Aircraft Maintenance Officer’s Course, Adjutant General Advanced Course, the Command and General Staff College, the Space Operations Officer Qualification Course, and the Joint Professional Military Education II. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma, and a Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University.
Colonel McCune began his Army career as an Adjutant for 1st Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was then assigned to XVIII Airborne Corps as an assessments planner where he immediately deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Upon redeployment from OIF, he was assigned to the United States Army Special Operations Command as the G1 Actions Branch Chief. His next assignment was as the Battalion Adjutant for 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Colonel McCune transferred to the Space Operations functional area in January 2011 and was assigned to the Missile Warning Center, Joint Functional Component Command for Space at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, Colorado where he served as a Crew Commander and as the Standards and Evaluations Chief. He was then assigned to the 1st Space Brigade from June 2014 to May 2017, where he served as an Army Space Support Team Leader, 1st Space Battalion Executive Officer, and Brigade Logistics Officer. Assigned to Special Operations Command – South in June 2017, Colonel McCune served as the Special Technical Operations Chief, Joint Effects Division Chief, and as the Future Operations Division Chief overseeing all non-lethal effects and future Special Operations in the United States Southern Command’s area of responsibility. In June 2021, Colonel McCune was reassigned to the United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command, Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, where he served as Deputy, Chief of Operations. Prior to assuming his role as the Chief, Strategic Partnerships, USSPACECOM, Colonel McCune served as the Commander, 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade.
Colonel McCune’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal (1OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal (2OLC), National Defense Service Medal (2 Awards), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (1OLC), Iraq Campaign Medal (2 Awards), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, and the Army Master Space Badge. Colonel McCune is married to Ivey McCune and they have six children, Hanna (29), Rachael (27), Johnathan (25), Grace (23), Kennedy (21), and Karsyn (19).
