Commander Stewart L. Sibert

Commander Stew Sibert previous assignment was as the Procurement, Construction, & Improvement (PC&I) Appropriations Coordinator in the Office of Budget and Programs (CG-821). In that role, CDR Sibert organized, advocated for, and helped oversee the execution of the billions of dollars that the Coast Guard depends on for major and non-major acquisitions as well as shore infrastructure construction. 

Prior legal assignments include service as the acting Deputy Chief of the Office of Information and Intelligence Law (CG-LII) from early 2022 to mid 2023; assignment as the legal advisor to the Office of Cyberspace Forces (CG-791) from 2020 to 2023; and service as a criminal defense attorney on detached duty with the Navy’s Defense Service Office West, in San Diego, CA from 2018 to 2020. Previously, CDR Sibert served as the Executive Assistant to the Commander at Force Readiness Command in Norfolk, VA; the Commanding Officer of CGC HALIBUT (WPB-87304) homeported in Marina del Rey, CA; the Executive Officer of CGC BARANOF (WPB-1308) while forward deployed to the Arabian Gulf; and the Navigator aboard CGC ELM (WLB-204) homeported in Atlantic Beach, NC.   

Commander Sibert graduated with high honors from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2008 with a B.S. in Government. More recently, he graduated from the Boston University School of Law with a J.D. (cum laude) and a specialization in international law in 2018. He is a member of the Massachusetts State Bar, the American Bar Association, and the Maritime Law Association of the United States.   

His military awards include two meritorious service medal, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, a Navy-Marine Corps Achievement medal, a Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the permanent cutterman insignia. He was recognized by the American Bar Association and the Judge Advocate’s Association as the Coast Guard’s Outstanding Young Military Attorney of the Year for 2022. His professional recognition also includes the 2018 American Bar Association Award for Professional Merit.  

He is a native of Richmond, VA and he lives with his wife, Destiny, in Alexandria, VA. They have a dog and a cat to keep them company. Outside of the Coast Guard, Commander Sibert volunteers with the Civil Air Patrol, and serves as a member of the Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association’s Board of Directors.
