Tim Atherton gave a talk today about new results on sphere packing on arrested surfaces at the Greater Boston Area Statistical Mechanics Meeting. The meeting, hosted by Brandeis University, brought together about 100 researchers from the New England area to discuss interesting new results on active matter, out of equilibrium systems and packing spheres on cylinders. An interesting feature was the use of “table talks”—short presentations by students in front of small groups that proved an innovative way of engaging all members of the meeting in graduate student research. Chris Burke and Andrew DeBenedictis, two grad students from the softmattertheory group, each gave well attended table talks on their recent work.

Thanks to the organizers of GABSM for organizing this fantastic meeting!
