Bay State Bike Week is coming up! Help Tufts win the Mass Commute Challenge

bay state bike weekThe gloomy weather may not encourage you to go outside today, but have a look at the 10-day forecast, savor that long row of numbers in the 60s, and dust off your bicycle: the 2012 Bay State Bike Week is going on from May 14-20! Presented by MassDOT and MassBike, this “annual celebration of human-powered, two-wheeled transportation” is full of local eventsfrom organized rides, film screenings, scavenger hunts, etc., making Massachusetts the only state in the nation with a truly statewide bike week.

You can also register and help Tufts win the MassCommute Bicycle Challenge, a competition open to anyone who lives, works or attends school in Massachusetts. Simply pledge to bike for all or part of Bay State Bike Week and let’s get Tufts on theleaderboard this year. Look at the real-time stats to see how we’re doing against our competitors. MIT is leading now and we’re 5th. Come on, register now! Prizes will be raffled off at the Bike Bash wrap up party.

May 1 deadline: Climate Counts i2 Challenge Competition

Pop Quiz: What do the following companies all have in common?

Answer:  These companies are all members of the Climate Counts Industry Innovators (i2) program.   i2 companies support Climate Counts mission of educating consumers while holding themselves to the highest standard of climate leadership.

As a way of saying thanks to these companies, the winner of our Climate Counts i2 Challenge will win a $50 gift card to the i2 company of their choice.

How do you win?
Simple: email us a picture of a time you supported an i2 company.  It could be a photo of you atop a mountain decked out in REI gear, a shot of your friends boarding the Amtrak to see the cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C., or perhaps your neighbors enjoying a refreshing cone of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.  The person with the coolest picture (as judged by your peers) wins!

You can send pictures with a brief explanation to us at  info@climatecounts.org with “Climate Counts i2 Challenge” in the subject line.  All photos will be compiled and added to our  Facebook page and  blog, with judging to be completed by May 7, 2012.

Deadline for submissions is Tuesday May 1, 2012.

The winner will received one $50 gift card to the i2 company of choice.   If you’re one of the top 5 pictures we pick, we’ll send you a FREE Climate Counts t-shirt to show our appreciation!

May 20: Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle

 

Join MyRWA (Mystic River Watershed Association) for the 16th annual
Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle

Sunday, May 20th: 9am-afternoon

Runners, walkers, paddlers, cyclists, volunteers, spectators and all Mystic enthusiasts, we hope to see you on May 20th!

The Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle consists of a 5K Run/Walk (USATF certified course) along the Mystic River Bike Path at 9am and a 3, 9 or 12 mile Paddling Race up the Mystic River beginning at 11am. Compete in both the 5K and 12 mile paddle races and be eligible for the Iron Herring Award. Bike to the Sea will lead a 1.5 hour bicycle tour along the Mystic departing at 11:15am.

Fabulous prizes are donated by local businesses. T-Shirts provided to all who register by May 1st! This is the annual fundraiser for the Mystic River Watershed Association, an environmental non-profit organization celebrating 40 years in 2012!

Mar 30-Sep 28: GreenStreets Walk/Ride Day Commuter Challenge

Every last Friday of the month is the Green Streets Initiative‘s Walk/Ride Day – go car-free, check in your commute, and help Tufts win the inaugural Walk/Ride Corporate Challenge!

Walk Ride

Beginning March 30 until September 28, help create safe, healthier and more vibrant streets and communities by greening your commute.  Biking, walking, public transit, telecommuting and carpooling all count! The Corporate Challenge is a competition among Boston area employers to see which workplace has the highest percentage of staff going car-free or car-light on Walk/Ride Days.

Check in each Walk/Ride Day (the last Friday of every month) at http://greenstreets.mapc.org/.

All participants will also be entered into a raffle to win cool prizes.
