Communities benefit from Tufts Computer Donation Program

Tufts Community Relations (TCR) has been working with University Information Technology (UIT) for several years to donate computers to community agencies and schools.

The Tufts Computer Donation Program collects, cleans up and donates Tufts-owned computers that are less than five years old to the Grafton, Boston, and Medford/Somerville communities. Older computers are recycled via Tufts’ long-standing recycling program. Before donation, all computer hard drives are wiped and their operating systems¬† reinstalled. UIT then provides a list of available computers to TCR to identify organizations that would benefit from a donation.

Medford/Somerville faculty and staff with old computers to donate should go to Facilities’ website and ask to schedule a time for them to pick-up your old computer. If you work in Boston or Grafton, email¬†¬† For more details, visit UIT’s website.

  1. To whom it may concern:
I am the Resident Services Coordinator at 402 Rindge Ave in Cambridge. I am in desperate need of computers as I must get a computer learning lab up and running. Our population is approximately 70% immigrants who do not speak the language and their children interpret for them which puts a strain on many things. I am looking for six to begin a class as soon as possible. SC is a property management company and Just-A-Start (Cambridge) is a non-profit-we work on skill building, financial self-sufficiency and much more. Without computer training on-site (due to the child care issue it is necessary) particularly women will lose the opportunity to begin forging ahead in the workforce.
These computers technically should be desktops but if laptops are the only option, I will be grateful to obtain any. I can be reached via email or by phone at 617-876-5083 during normal business hours.
I sincerely hope you can be of help. I realize Cambridge is not in your catchment area, but I am reaching out with hope. Thank you, Nancy Porcaro
