SNDA’s Tooth Games

Tufts School of Dental Medicine’s Student National Dental Association (SNDA) hosted a lively and educational “Tooth Games” event at the Boston Public Children’s Library, engaging 35 children and their parents. The event catered to children aged 5–13 and focused on promoting dental health awareness through fun and interactive activities.

The day kicked off with a dental-themed twist on the classic game Red Light, Green Light, serving as a fun icebreaker. Three main activity stations followed:

    1. Dental Education Jeopardy: Kids answered questions about oral health in an engaging, game-show format.
    2. Nutrition Matching Game: This station challenged children to identify foods and drinks as either beneficial or harmful to their teeth, including calculating the sugar content in common beverages. This hands-on activity was especially popular, as participants connected their learning to everyday choices at home and school.
    3. Brush and Floss Station: At this station, participants practiced proper brushing and flossing techniques on an oversized tooth model after a demonstration, reinforcing essential skills.

Children who completed all stations received goodie bags as a reward. The event concluded with a group book reading and a Q&A session with parents, ensuring everyone left with valuable knowledge and resources.

The Tooth Games event not only empowered children to take charge of their oral health but also provided SNDA members with invaluable experience in educating and interacting with a young and impressionable audience. It was a meaningful day for all involved and a testament to the power of community outreach.

Participants: Chloe Ways-D26, Roosemide Saint Ford, Bethgeana Coq-D28, Sharon Washington-D28, Raquez Martin-D28.
