Horizons for Homeless Children Seeking Playspace Volunteers!
Horizons for Homeless Children is an organization that improves the lives of young homeless children and their families. They are looking for volunteers for the Playspace program. Play is really important for child development, so this is a chance to provide Playspaces in shelters for children.
Volunteers have to commit to working at a Playspace for two hours once a week for six months. Shifts are available weekdays between 8-9pm, but many of the shifts take place in the evenings from 6-8pm. They are looking for volunteers interested in working with the homeless population, especially if they have previous experience working with children. These volunteers should take initiative in planning and leading activities for the children. The Playspaces are designed to be developmentally appropriate for children ages 0-6. To become a PAL, you must fill out an application, pass a background check, provide two references, and complete a training.
Playspace Activity Leader (PAL) new volunteer training will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, November 19thand 20th from 6-8:30pm at HHC headquarters: 1705 Columbus Avenue, Roxbury MA 02119. Please feel free to attend the training and invite a friend to come along! Paper applications will be available at the door if you have not registered in advance.
For any questions during the training, please call the office cell phone at 781-686-8065.
