Every spring, The Data Lab and Tufts Technology Services (TTS) hosts the annual GIS Expo. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to present their work as part of a university-wide exposition of geospatial research at Tufts.

2024 – 2025 GIS Expo
Join us in May 2025 for this annual in-person celebration showcasing GIS projects from our GIS courses across the university.

Event Details
- Anyone can participate by submitting a poster or a web-based application such as a StoryMap, Instant App, or Dashboard.
- Catered by Dave’s Fresh Pasta and refreshments provided
- No formal presentations! Just explore the gallery and engage with fellow Tufts GIS students, faculty, and staff
- You do not need to be in attendance to have your project displayed at the GIS expo! Data Lab staff take care of all the set up on the day of the event (students must print their posters ahead of time).
- Excellent award prizes (see below) and great resume building event
Prizes & Awards
- Multiple Intro and Advanced level prizes for both posters and web-based projects
- Best in show prize = $100
- Runner up prize = $50
- Separate prizes award to Graduate and Undergraduate students
- Tufts GIS Expo award winner’s have the option of having their projects submitted to ESRI’s Map Gallery at the ESRI Users Conference (UC) in San Diego in July and displayed in person as part of the Data Lab collection.
- Projects are submitted to ESRI’s Map Gallery competition.
- In the 8 years Tufts GIS has been submitting student projects, we have had 19 students win internationally recognized prizes at ESRI’s largest event.
