Installing ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 Digital Distribution Student Edition

You will need to have received you student software key code. If you are in a GIS class you should have received this from your instructor. If you are not in a class, you can contact gis-support@elist.tufts.edu for your code.

 Before you install ArcGIS for Desktop

Check our system requirements to make sure your computer has the hardware and software required for the trial.

  • If necessary, install the Microsoft .NET Framework (version 3.5 Service Pack 1 or higher).
  • The software cannot be installed on a computer that has a previous version of ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Server installed; if necessary, uninstall previous versions of ArcGIS Desktop or Server.  It’s OK if the computer has ArcGIS Explorer installed.

Activate you authorization code

Download installation media

  • Click “Download”  button for ArcGIS Desktop
  • Run the downloaded ArcGIS_Desktop_101.exe to extract installation files to a directory
  • When prompted, allow ArcGIS to make changes on your computer.
  • Follow the instructions in the wizard.  Select “Complete” for Select Installation Type.
  • In 1. Select a Product, choose Advanced (ArcInfo) Single Use.
  • The 2. Launch the Authorization Wizard for Single Use Products now activates.  Click on Authorize Now.
  • In Authorization Options, leave default of I have installed my software and need to authorize it.  Click next.  Fill in your personal information if needed.
  • In Software Authorization Number, enter your activated code.
  • Go to Evaluate Software Extensions.  Add all extensions to Evaluation Extensions
