The Question

How Does Lead Poisoning Affect the Nervous System?

Lead poisoning can occur through inhalation or digestion. This can occur through lead pipes or lead paint in consumer goods. It is well known that lead exposure can cause learning disabilities and other neurological issues. The pages of this website will be exploring the biochemistry behind why this happens.

Maybe add some brief info on how lead poisoning usually occurs (old pipes, paint, etc) and its history in the US.

I agree with what Daniel said about the comment regarding how lead poisoning occurs. It seems that in your image, there are parts of the United states where lead poisoning is more prevalent than other areas. Is it possible that lead poisoning is more concentrated on the Eastern cost because those areas are more populated? Could it be because urban development occured first from the East coast and spread to the West coast?

Good Point, we will address that lead poisoning can be inhaled or digested through paint etc but we don’t feel its pertinent to address west vs east coast differences. There is more background about this on the big picture page.

I agree with Henry’s comment; this could also tie the diagram describing lead levels in the soil to how lead poisoning actually occurs more clearly
