GENERAL SUMMARY

The DIA is undergoing a reinstallation of its Asian collection. This position is responsible for developing and managing interpretive plans that structure visitor experiences in exhibitions and permanent collections galleries and for creating interpretive media that support and fulfill the museum’s mission of helping visitors find personal meaning in art.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborates with cross functional teams, consisting of colleagues from Learning & Interpretation division as well as curatorial, exhibitions, evaluation, and other areas to develop special exhibition and permanent collection interpretive plans
  • Leads teams in planning visitor experiences for exhibitions and development of big ideas, visitor      outcomes, walkthroughs, floorplans, and interpretive materials
  • Manages development of content and experience for interpretive media in collaboration with colleagues from the curatorial, publications, and audio visual departments
  • Researches content and recommends strategies for object and exhibition interpretation
  • Manages projects, schedules, and budgets; supervises junior L&I colleagues in product development; oversees project deliverables

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in museum studies, humanities fields, education, or related discipline
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent museum experience involved in planning, development and evaluation of interpretation
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding and practical application of critical issues in museum      interpretation, visitor experience development and the ways in which people of all ages learn
  • Excellent oral communication skills and the capacity to write in an engaging manner for various      audiences
  • Intellectual curiosity about art and its interdisciplinary connections
  • Ability to develop imaginative and creative interpretive strategies and media that stimulate interest and engage learners of all ages
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong oral communication and critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional organizational, conceptual and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently, with peers, and in cross-functional teams
